Lord Wavell [Lord Wavell] born
(Archibald Percival Wavell 1883–1950) a senior military officer in charge of British forces in the Middle East from 1939 to 1941, during ↑World War II. He later commanded British forces in India and from 1943 to 1947 he was Viceroy of India (= the representative of the British government ruling India when it was part of the ↑British Empire). He was made an ↑earl in 1947.
